Frequently Asked Questions
Day of Event
Schools are only allowed to punish you how they would any normal day, which may include detentions, a phone call home for being absent, or you may have missing assignments. If your school is punishing you more so than they would on a normal day, that is unacceptable and against the law and you need to contact the ACLU of Southern California or us so that we can help.
To know what rules your specific school has in place, we encourage you to read the student handbook that can be found in the school provided planners or online.
In regards to the city, they are not allowed to punish you for truancy or violation of daytime curfew as the Moreno Valley City municipal code 11.05.040 states under article k that " It is not a violation of this (chapter) if...the minor is excercising First Amendment rights protected by the United States Constitution".
We have organized an array of student speakers, guest speakers, and survivors to come and deliver empowering messages. We will also have a speak out circle for students to participate in, voter registration and pre-registration for those 16+, and stations to write letters to our government officials.
To know more in detail about what we have planned, please check out the Program tab at the top of the page.
